Wiley C. Crowder, 82, a 17-year employee of the circulation department of The Journal Review died at 8:30 a.m. Friday in Carmen Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. He was a resident of Waynetown. Death was atributed to heart failure and complications. He had been a patient at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette since March 8 and transferred to the nursing home last Monday. Mr. Crowder was born March 24, 1886 in Fountain County, the son of John and Emma Crowder. He was married March 9, 1910 to Lillie Florence Keeling at Phanuel Lutheran Church in Jackson Township, Fountain County. Mr. Crowder was a member of the Yountsville Methodist Church and Wallace Masonic Lodge NO. 495. He attended school in Fountain County and farmed until he retired and went to work for The Journal. Survivors include his wife, a brother, Grover Crowder of Hiillsboro; two sons, Gordon of Yountsville and Paul of El Monte, Calif; two daughters, Margaret Groves of Smartsburg and Kathryn Kelsey of New Richmond; 16 grandchildren and 11 greats. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Funeral arrangements are pending at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home, Waynetown.

-- Waynetown - Funeral services for Wiley C. Crowder were held Monday afternoon at the Servies - Thomas Funeral Home here. Rev. John Servies was the officiating minister and Mrs. Mary Mullen was the organist. John Thomas sang, Beautiful Garden of Prayer and The Eastern Gate. Pallbearers who also assisted with floral tributes were Melvin Taylor and grandsons of the deceased, Damon & Charles Kelsey; Bill and Donald Groves and Robert Crowder. Burial was in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Last rites were conducted by the Wallace Masonic Lodge 495 Sunday night at the funeral home. Those who took part in the service were James Lowery, worshipful master; Corwin Yerkes, chaplain; James Harvey, senior warden with Tom Goodin, Esten Goodin, Bob Nickell, Marvin Carlile, Bronson Roach, DOnald Zackmire and J. Marx Summers participating.

Waynetown, Ind -- Wiley C. Crowder, 82 of Waynetown died at 8:30 a.m. yesterday (May 24, 1968) in Carmen Nursing Home, Crawfordsville where he had been a patient one week. He had been ill 7 weeks and had spent six weeks in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. Born March 24, 1856 in Fountain County, he was the son of John and Emaline Crowder Crowder. March 9, 1910, he married Lily Keeling at the parsonage of Wallace Lutheran Church. She survives. He was educated in Fountain County schools and farmed most of his life in Hillsboro, Wallace and Yountsville communities until his retiremen tin 1943 when he moved to Yountsville. He moved to Waynetown in 1946. For the past 17 years he was with the circulation department of the Crawfordsville Journal and Review. A member of Youngsville (sic) Methodist Church and Wallace Lodge F & AM 495, he was interested in guns. Survivors include two sons, Gordon D of Crawfordsville Rt 4 and Paul J. of Hacienda Heights, Calif; two daughters, Mrs. William (Margaret) Groves of Crawfordsville Rt 5 and Mrs. Lawrence (Kathryn) Kelsey of Crawfordsville Rt 6; a brother, Grover of Hillsboro Rt 1; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a great granddaughter. Services will be 2 p.m. MOnday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. John Servies officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday.
